Goddards and Food
Beer drinking occasions have evolved a long way since the
days of a "pie and a pint". Next time you instinctively
reach for a wine bottle to go with you lunch or dinner, why
not have some fun and try these Goddards ale and food
pairings.
Special Bitter 4.0% abv
Fish with sauces or batter, blue cheeses and curries. Not
having too intense a character means Goddards Special Bitter
can play a fine supporting role
Ale of Wight 3.7%abv (draught) or 4.0% abv (bottled)
Mediterranean food, pasta, oily dishes. Light citrus-y
aromatics and a balanced hoppiness moderates and compliments
dishes where oil and herbs are staple ingredients
Fuggle-Dee-Dum 4.8% abv
Barbequed meats, hearty casseroles. Fuggle-Dee-Dum's big,
bold, rounded character is just the job here.
Ducks Folly 5.2 %abv
Lighter curries, grilled meats and moderately intense cheeses. The style of Ducks Folly bridges the gap between Fuggle-Dee-Dum and the lighter, lower gravity Special Bitter and Ale of Wight. A higher level of alcohol lends a softer mouth-feel and provides that "iron fist in a velvet glove" robustness.
Foot note:
Our head brewer Chris is a staunch devotee of the
home-made Fuggle-Dee-Dum sausage. The exact recipe remains a
close-guarded secret, and will continue thus as we feel it's
a little bit like asking the monks for their recipe for
Chartreuse! Meanwhile The Wall of Fish remains essential
viewing, even though it has absolutely nothing to do with
our beer...
